Akrotiri Salt Lake and the flamingos
A wetland of international importance on the peninsula south-west of the city.
The wetland
Akrotiri is the largest inland water body in Cyprus and a Ramsar-listed wetland. Thousands of flamingos winter here, alongside a long list of migratory species using the eastern Mediterranean flyway.
When to go
December to March for the birds. In summer the lake dries to a salt pan and the interest shifts to the surrounding eucalyptus forest and the coast.
