Kolossi Castle and the origins of Commandaria
A Crusader stronghold west of Limassol, tied to the world's oldest named wine.
The keep
The surviving three-storey keep dates to the fifteenth century, built by the Knights of St John on an earlier Hospitaller site. The sugar mill beside it is a reminder of the estate's original economy.
Commandaria
The Grande Commanderie that gave Commandaria wine its name was based here — the reason a fortified village fifteen minutes from Limassol appears in medieval European wine records.
