Lofou, a restored stone village

One of the best-preserved traditional villages in the Limassol district.

Stone and restraint

Lofou was rebuilt in local stone with strict conservation rules, which is why it reads as a single coherent village rather than a patchwork. It is the clearest surviving example of pre-concrete Cypriot building in the district.

Why builders visit

The masonry, the thick walls, the small openings and the shaded courtyards are climate responses that modern envelopes reproduce with insulation and glazing instead of mass.
